COERR Aranyaprathet Established Volunteer Groups for Elderly Care

   COERR Aranyaprathet had provided since 1978 emergency relief for refugees and Thai villagers along the border of Sa Kaew and Prachinburi Province.

   After all refugees returned home country, COERRR Aranyaprathet continued to render services for the poor Thai villagers in Sa Kaew Province. Since June 9, 1996 the humanitarian assistance program aiming at monthly distribution of dry foodstuff and rice to the vulnerable elderly and handicapped along the border areas of Sakaew Province, started.

   In 2021, COERR Aranyaprathet participated in the Regional Programme for the Elderly in Asia with an aim to set up community volunteer groups in order to coordinate with government as well as private sectors for the social and health care benefit of vulnerable elderly; information center; mobile team for elderly care; and training of the elderly care volunteer, etc.

   Since March 2021, three pilot volunteer groups were set up in 3 villages, namely Ban Khao Look Chang with 8 volunteers; Ban Rom Thong with 5 volunteers and Ban Kood Toey with 5 volunteers. In each village there is a working group of 5 members and a support team that help conducting the activity, such as home visits and screening the condition of the elderly in the village, home visit for bedridden elderly, a monthly visit of the working group accompanying the nurse team from the Subdistrict Hospital to the bedridden elderly giving advice to the caregiver; blood drawing for measuring blood sugar level, blood pressure taking, etc.

The volunteer and the elderly meetings were held in Ban Khao Look Chang, Ban Rom Thong
and Kood Toey during March 22-24,2021
